Is phone snatching a real thing?

Is phone theft a common issue?

Recent Update:

Just got back from my trip to London and happy to report that my phone is still in my possession!

During my visit, I decided to invest in a lanyard that I attached to my crossbody bag strap, and it worked like a charm. I also made sure to be mindful of my surroundings when using my phone in public.

As a Scandinavian, I never really encountered this issue back home, so it was a bit of a concern for me while visiting London.

With all the stories circulating about phones being snatched from people’s hands on the street, I was understandably worried, especially since I enjoy taking pictures.

Do you think purchasing one of those phone straps would be effective, or should I simply exercise caution?
