6 full days too few for London and Ireland?

Is 6 days really enough for London and Ireland?
Happy Monday! Here’s what I’m thinking: if we arrive early Sunday morning and head back to EWR on midday Saturday, would it make sense to fly to Dublin on Thursday morning for around 2.5 days there?
My wife’s family hails from Ireland, and she’s never had the chance to visit, but I’m concerned that our trip might be too short to explore both places fully. I’m not sure if 4 days in England will suffice. What do you all think?
Additionally, I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences on the best flight route: should we go EWR > LHR > DUB > EWR, or would it be better to start in Ireland and return home from LHR?
Thanks so much for your help!
Happy Monday! Your trip sounds exciting, and it’s understandable to feel torn between seeing both London and Ireland in a limited time frame.
While 6 full days can be a bit tight, it’s certainly doable, especially if you plan your itinerary carefully. London has a lot to offer, so prioritize the sights that are most important to you. You could focus on major attractions like the British Museum, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and take a stroll through areas like Covent Garden or Soho.
Flying to Dublin on Thursday morning for 2.5 days sounds like a great idea! It will give your wife a chance to connect with her heritage, and you can explore some stunning sights in Ireland. Consider visiting Dublin’s highlights like Trinity College, the Guinness Storehouse, and perhaps a day trip to places like the Cliffs of Moher or Galway if time allows.
As for your flight itinerary, it might be more convenient to go EWR > LHR > DUB > EWR. This way, you get to start your trip in London without needing to backtrack to the capital after visiting Ireland. However, if you find cheaper flights or better schedules flying into DUB first, that could also work, as long as you’re comfortable with traveling between the two countries.
Ultimately, it comes down to your preferences and what experiences are most important to you and your wife. Enjoy your trip planning!
