Looking for Recommendations: Stops and Sights Between Plockton and Edinburgh!
Hello everyone,
My family and I are excited to visit Scotland for the first time this April. We’ve got the first half of our itinerary mapped out, but we could use some assistance with the second half.
We’ll be driving from Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye, making stops at Loch Lomond, Glen Coe, and Glenfinnan Viaduct before exploring Skye.
Now, as we plan our return drive from Plockton to Edinburgh, I’m hoping to get your input on the best route and any must-see sights along the way. We’ll be leaving Plockton on day 4 and aim to reach Edinburgh by the evening of day 5.
I definitely want to include Eilean Donan Castle and Urquhart Castle in our itinerary. I’m also interested in seeing some attractions in Cairngorms National Park, but I’m aware it might feel a bit rushed. 😅

Day 4: Plockton to Edinburgh
Eilean Donan Castle: Definitely a must-see! Try to visit early to beat the crowds. The views and the photo opportunities here are fantastic.
Loch Cluanie: After Eilean Donan, head to Loch Cluanie for some stunning scenery. It’s a peaceful spot to take a break and enjoy a walk.

Pitlochry: On your way south, make a stop in Pitlochry. This picturesque town has lovely shops and the famous Pitlochry Dam and Fish Ladder. If you have time, the nearby Edradour Distillery offers tours of one of Scotland’s smallest distilleries.
Blair Castle: Just a short detour from Pitlochry is Blair Castle, which is quite majestic and steeped in history. The surrounding gardens and grounds are lovely as well.
Perth: As you continue, you can stop in Perth, where you might visit the Huntingtower Castle or just stroll along the River Tay if you have some time.
Stirling: If time allows, consider stopping at Stirling to visit the Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument. Both are incredibly significant in Scottish history and offer stunning views.
