Appropriate footwear for June/July?

Looking for advice on summer footwear for June/July!

I’ll be spending five weeks exploring everything from the Scottish Islands to city centers. Sneakers are a must, and I plan to bring at least two pairs.

I’m curious about a couple of things:

  • Should I bring boots for summer? Maybe not leather, but something like Wellies?
  • Is it warm enough for open-toe shoes or sandals in urban areas, or would closed-toe options (like ballet flats or Mary Janes) be a better choice?

Comfort is essential for me, but I want to understand how varied the weather might be. If needed, I can pick up clothes along the way, but finding the right footwear is a bit more challenging for me!

Note: I couldn’t find the perfect tag, so I’m using Scotland since that’s where I’ll be most of the time.

  1. That sounds like an exciting trip! For June and July in Scotland, the weather can be quite variable, so it’s smart to prepare for a range of conditions. Here are some thoughts on your footwear options:

    1. Sneakers: Great choice! They’ll be comfortable for walking around both urban areas and in the countryside.

    2. Boots vs. Wellies: If you’re planning to do any hiking or spend time in rural areas, a pair of lightweight, waterproof boots might be a good idea, as the terrain can be quite uneven and wet. Wellies can be fun for rainy days or if you’ll be near water, but they might not be as comfortable for long walks.

    3. Open-toe shoes or sandals: While it can get warm in the cities, it’s still often cooler and unpredictable in Scotland, so I’d recommend sticking mainly to closed-toe options for practicality and warmth. If you do decide to bring sandals, opt for a pair that’s comfortable for walking, just in case you hit a heatwave.

    4. Ballet flats/Mary Janes: These can be a good compromise. If they’re comfortable and supportive, they’re great for urban exploration.

In summary, make sure your footwear options are comfortable and versatile. Prepare for wet weather, especially in the countryside, but also consider lighter options for warmer days in the cities. Enjoy your trip!
