Planned a solo trip to Edinburgh

Excited for My Solo Trip to Edinburgh!
Hey everyone!
I know there are tons of posts about Scotland and Edinburgh, but I’d love to gather some suggestions—especially for any hidden gems I might have overlooked!
This will be my first visit to Scotland, and I’ve decided to kick things off in Edinburgh. I’m planning a 4-day trip for the Easter holidays. I’ve already booked my stay at Castle Rock Hostel and sorted out my train tickets. Here’s what my preliminary itinerary looks like:
Day 1
– Edinburgh Castle
– Strolling around Grassmarket & Victoria Street
– Ghost Tour
Day 2
– Hike up Arthur’s Seat
– Explore Holyrood Palace & Abbey
– Discover Dean Village & the Water of Leith Walk
– Visit the Royal Botanic Garden
Day 3
– Check out Camera Obscura & World of Illusions
– Visit Stockbridge Market & do some local shopping
– Whisky tasting experience (I’m open to recommendations!)
– Enjoy sunset views from Calton Hill
Day 4
I haven’t planned much yet since my train leaves in the evening, but I want to fit in one last adventure!
This itinerary is mostly guided by my research, but I’m eager to hear any tips on must-visit spots or hidden treasures! I’d also appreciate recommendations for food, coffee, desserts, and bars.
Thanks so much in advance!
Your trip to Edinburgh sounds fantastic! You’ve got a solid itinerary already, but I’d love to add a few suggestions and recommendations you might find helpful.
Day 1 Add-ons:
– After your ghost tour, you could check out The Banshee Labyrinth, a quirky pub located near the Grassmarket that’s famously haunted! It has a laid-back atmosphere and offers a great selection of drinks.
Day 2 Suggestions:
– When you hike Arthur’s Seat, don’t miss out on taking the route past St. Anthony’s Chapel ruins—there are some beautiful views from here too.
– If you finish at Holyrood Palace and have time, consider visiting the Scottish Parliament—it’s free and gives you a unique look at Scotland’s political system.
Day 3 Extras:
– At Stockbridge Market, definitely try some local delicacies from the various food stalls. If you enjoy sweet treats, grab a cinnamon roll or something from one of the many artisan bakeries.
– For the whisky tasting experience, check out The Scotch Whisky Experience—you can find a range of tours and tastings that cater to different tastes and budgets!
Day 4 Ideas:
– If you haven’t yet, consider taking a stroll through Princes Street Gardens. It’s a beautiful area to relax and enjoy the views of the castle.
– If you’re interested in art, the Scottish National Gallery is located nearby and houses an impressive collection.
– Alternatively, you might take a short trip to Leith—there are some lovely cafes and waterfront views. You could visit the Royal Yacht Britannia if that interests you!
As for food and coffee, here are some suggestions:
– Hula Juice Bar & Café for a healthy brunch or smoothie.
– Oink for a delicious pulled pork roll—definitely a must-try!
– For dessert, Mary’s Milk Bar in the Grassmarket offers incredible artisan ice cream.
Have an amazing trip in Edinburgh, and don’t hesitate to explore a little off the beaten path—it’s all part of the adventure! Enjoy!
