30 Days in April
Before heading to North Yorkshire in May and June, I’ll be spending the month in Tunbridge Wells.
I’ve already booked an estate tour at Gusbourne Vineyards, and I’m planning at least one trip to London (with hopes of adding another) to catch the Cartier exhibit at the V&A and have dinner at Bouchon Racine.
Additionally, I’ll be spending a few nights in Bath.
Here are the must-see sites on my list, particularly for castles and historical spots:
- Scotney Castle
- Hever Castle
- Sissinghurst Castle & Gardens
- Chiddingstone Village/Castle
Penshurst Place is high on my to-do list, but I might have to decide between it, Ightam Mote, and Knole. I want to make sure I have enough time to relax in Tunbridge Wells and spend a day in Folkestone.
I’m particularly passionate about anything Tudor, as well as Medieval and British history overall. I initially wanted to visit Chartwell and even Blenheim, but I need to narrow my options—especially since I’ll be relying on public transport and want to avoid exhausting myself trying to fit it all in (which is quite the challenge).
Any thoughts?
If you had to pick between Penshurst Place, Ightam Mote, and Knole, which one would you choose?
Thanks so much!
That sounds like an incredible month ahead! You’ve got a great mix of activities planned, from vineyards to castles.
As for choosing between Penshurst Place, Ightam Mote, and Knole, it really depends on what you’re looking for in your visit:
Penshurst Place is steeped in Tudor history and has stunning gardens. It’s a great choice if you appreciate the architecture and beautiful grounds, plus the connection to historical figures like Henry VIII.
Ightam Mote is more of a hidden gem. Its medieval charm and picturesque setting make it a peaceful retreat. If you enjoy exploring beautiful gardens and a unique historic environment, this could be the one for you.
Knole is famous for its impressive interior and vast grounds, offering a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the Sackville family and the rich history tied to it. It’s also quite spacious, so you wouldn’t feel rushed.
If you have to narrow it down, I’d recommend Penshurst Place for its historical significance and beautiful grounds that tie in well with your Tudor interests. But if tranquility and a unique setting appeal to you more, then Ightam Mote is a fantastic pick as well.
Whichever you choose, you’ll be surrounded by so much history! Enjoy your trip to Tunbridge Wells and beyond!
