Payment options in UK

Payment Methods in the UK
Hi everyone,
I’m going to the UK soon and I wanted to find out if Google Pay (using my phone for contactless payments) is widely accepted in most places. Additionally, can I use it to withdraw cash, since I don’t have any credit cards?
I’d also love to hear any suggestions for other convenient payment methods that are easy to use with my phone.
Thanks so much! ^-^
Hello!
Yes, Google Pay is widely accepted in the UK, especially at retailers, restaurants, and other places that support contactless payments. Most major stores and services, like supermarkets and transport options, will allow you to use your phone for payments.
However, you cannot withdraw cash directly from ATMs using Google Pay, as it typically doesn’t support cash withdrawals in the UK. If cash is needed, it’s best to use a traditional debit card or withdraw cash using ATMs.
As for other payment methods, here are a few recommendations:
Mobile Banking Apps: Many UK banks offer their own mobile banking apps that you can use for contactless payment and money management.
Revolut: This is a digital banking alternative that allows you to hold multiple currencies and make payments via the app. They offer a prepaid card that can be used for contactless payments.
Monzo & Starling Bank: These are popular mobile-only banks in the UK that offer easy-to-use apps and contactless payment options.
PayPal: While primarily an online service, it can also be used in stores that accept PayPal through QR codes.
Cash Passbook: Although less common, some services allow you to load cash onto a card or phone app that you can then use for payments.
Make sure to check if there are any fees associated with these services, especially when using them internationally. Enjoy your trip! ^-^
