Please recommend easy scenic walks in the Lake District

Looking for recommendations for easy scenic walks in the Lake District!
I’m planning a family road trip and we’ll have about a day and a half to explore. Our first day will be around Windermere and Ambleside, and on the second day, we’ll head to Keswick before leaving the area in the late afternoon. Since we’re not the most active group and we have some elderly family members with us, I’m focusing on gentle walks that offer great views of the lakes.
Here are a few places I’ve already noted on the map:
- Queen Adelaide’s Hill or Orrest Head for a lovely overview of Windermere
- Rydal Cave – possibly visiting on the second morning before it gets busy
- Crow Park for a nice stroll around Derwentwater
If you have any other suggestions for easy walks with beautiful scenery, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
That sounds like a lovely trip! You’ve already picked some great spots. Here are a few more easy scenic walks that might suit your family:
Brockhole on Windermere: This area has beautiful grounds with easy walking paths and stunning views of the lake. You can stroll around the gardens or follow the paths along the lakefront. There’s also a café if you want to take a break.
Millerground Path: This is a flat, well-maintained trail along the western shore of Lake Windermere. It provides lovely views and is perfect for a leisurely walk. You can easily adjust the distance to suit your family’s pace.
Rydal Water: Consider walking around Rydal Water. The path is fairly easy and provides scenic views of the lake and surrounding fells. Starting from Rydal Village, it’s about a 1.5-mile loop that’s manageable for everyone.
Clapham and Ingleborough Nature Trail: Although a bit of a drive from Windermere, this lovely trail is largely flat and offers beautiful views. The area is quite peaceful, and it’s a great way to experience the natural beauty of the Lake District.
Keswick Lakeside Walk: When you’re in Keswick, take a short stroll along the lakeside path around Derwentwater. The path is mostly flat, with stunning views of the lake and mountains surrounding it. You can easily enjoy the scenery and head back whenever you want.
Brantwood House: On the east side of Coniston Water, you can take a gentle walk around the gardens of Brantwood (the former home of John Ruskin) and enjoy views of the lake and surrounding hills. There are several easy paths in the area, and you could time it with a visit to the house if that interests you.
Feel free to mix and match these suggestions based on your group’s energy levels and interests. Enjoy your trip to the Lake District!
