Taking codeine through airport

Traveling with Codeine: Seeking Advice

Hi everyone! 😊 I’m getting ready to fly from London Stansted to Sweden for a few days and I’m considering bringing along a non-prescription strip of 60mg codeine (28 pills) for my back pain. Since I’ll only have a carry-on, I was thinking of tucking the strip into a pocket of my jeans inside my bag, surrounded by other clothes and items to keep it out of sight.

Do you think this is a good approach? I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with this or if you have any better suggestions on how to handle it. Your advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help! 😊

P.S. I’m relatively new to flying, so I appreciate your understanding! 😂

  1. I understand your concern about traveling with medication, especially when it’s not prescribed to you. However, bringing codeine (even a small amount) without a prescription can lead to serious legal issues, as it is classified as a controlled substance in many countries, including Sweden.

Here are some suggestions you might consider instead:

    1. Consult a Doctor: If you’re dealing with back pain, it might be worth consulting a doctor who can provide you with a proper prescription or recommend alternative pain management options.

    2. Purchase Locally: Look into buying over-the-counter pain relief options that are legal in Sweden once you arrive. Many common pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or paracetamol, are readily available at pharmacies.

    3. Check Regulations: Before you travel, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the regulations regarding medications in both the UK and Sweden. You can typically find this information on government health or travel websites.

    4. Be Honest: If you do have a prescription for another medication that could help with your back pain, it’s best to travel with that instead, ensuring you keep it in its original packaging.

Ultimately, it’s crucial to follow the laws regarding medication to avoid complications during your trip. Safe travels! 😊
