London to Edinburgh Train Seating

Train Seating Options from London to Edinburgh
Hello! My fiancé and I are planning a trip to the UK in a few months and we’re excited to take the LNER train from London to Edinburgh. As this is my first time booking a train journey, I’m a bit confused about the seating arrangements.
I hope this isn’t too silly of a question, but if we want to sit together at a table, should we choose the highlighted seats in the picture, or opt for the seats facing each other? Will we be sharing the table either way, or will the seats across from us be facing away from the table?
I feel a bit embarrassed asking, but I want to make sure I book the right seats. We’d love to have a table, as we enjoy playing cards and think it would be a nice addition to our trip.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
TL;DR: If we reserve a table for two, will we be sharing it with two other passengers?
Hi there! No need to feel ridiculous—it’s a great question, and I’m happy to help!
When you book a table for two on the LNER train, you typically have the option to either sit across from each other at a four-seat table (where you might share the table with another couple or group if it’s busy) or choose a dedicated two-seat table that may not have anyone sitting with you.
If you want the best chance of having a private table, look for the two-seat table options, which are usually marked separately. If you choose the four-seat table, you’ll have the option to sit across from each other, but there’s a possibility someone else could be seated with you if the train is full.
For playing cards, the table between you is perfect! Just make sure to check the seating layout when booking and choose the option that fits your preference best.
Hope that helps, and enjoy your trip to Edinburgh!
