Hampton Court Palace Visit

We’re excited to visit Hampton Court Palace with our two children (under 10)! Initially, we had plans to go to Windsor, but after reading previous posts, we decided to change our destination.

Quick question: Do we need to buy train tickets ahead of time, or can we just use a contactless card for our journey?

We’re also looking to get a Historic Royal Palaces Membership since we want to visit the Tower of London and Kensington Palace as well. From what I’ve gathered, we don’t need to reserve tickets in advance; we can simply present our membership at the entrance. Is that correct?

Any additional tips or advice for our trip to Hampton Court Palace would be greatly appreciated!

  1. That sounds like a wonderful day out! Hampton Court Palace is a fantastic place for families, and your kids will love exploring the gardens and the maze.

    1. Train Tickets: You can definitely use a contactless card for your train journey to Hampton Court. Just make sure you touch in and out at the stations. However, if you’re traveling during peak times or prefer to have a ticket in hand, you can purchase tickets in advance online for a small discount.

    2. Historical Palace Membership: Your understanding is correct! With the Historical Palace Membership, you can simply show your membership card at the admissions gate, and you won’t need to book tickets in advance. It’s a great value if you’re planning to visit multiple palaces.

    3. Tips for Hampton Court Palace:

    4. Explore the Gardens: The gardens are beautiful and worth taking time to explore. The Maze is especially fun for kids!
    5. Check for Family Activities: They often have family-friendly activities and events, so check the timetable when you arrive.
    6. Bring Snacks: While there are cafes on-site, it can be more convenient (and cheaper) to bring some snacks for the kids.
    7. Dress for the Weather: Make sure to check the weather forecast. Some parts of the palace and gardens may require outdoor exploration.
    8. Audio Guides: Consider renting audio guides for a more in-depth experience. They often have kid-friendly options as well.

Enjoy your trip to Hampton Court Palace! It sounds like a wonderful adventure for your family!
