26M Traveling to the UK (April 26 – May 4) – Seeking Recommendations!
Hi everyone,
I’m excited to share that I’ll be visiting the UK from NYC from April 26th to May 4th (9 days) with my two sisters! We’ll be flying in and out of London and want to make the most of our time there.
I’m currently planning to spend time in London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, but I’d appreciate any suggestions on how to structure our itinerary for an unforgettable experience. I intend to wrap up our trip in London, so we’ll focus on sightseeing there in the latter part of our stay. We’re also open to exploring other locations if they’re worthwhile.
I’m thinking about renting a car in Scotland, with a particular interest in visiting Glencoe. However, I’m a bit concerned about whether that would require too much driving in our limited timeframe. Would it be feasible without feeling rushed?
Additionally, I’d love your recommendations on:
- Must-see attractions and experiences in the UK beyond the cities I’ve mentioned
- Other destinations we should consider adding to our itinerary
- The best road trip routes in Scotland (especially if we visit Glencoe or other areas)
- Any hidden gems or unique experiences you think we shouldn’t miss
We’re flexible with our plans and eager to have an amazing adventure. Looking forward to your insights—thank you in advance!
Hey there!
Your trip to the UK sounds exciting, and it’s great that you’re planning to explore both London and Scotland! Here are some suggestions to help you make the most of your 9 days:
Itinerary Suggestions:
Day 1-3: London
– Spend your first few days exploring key landmarks like the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and the British Museum. Don’t miss a walk through Covent Garden and a visit to the West End to catch a show.
– If you have time, consider exploring neighborhoods like Shoreditch or Notting Hill for a more local vibe.
Day 4-5: Edinburgh
– Take a short flight or train to Edinburgh early on Day 4. The train ride is beautiful and might allow you to enjoy the scenery.
– In Edinburgh, visit the iconic Edinburgh Castle, stroll along the Royal Mile, and hike up Arthur’s Seat for stunning views.
– Make sure to check out the underground vaults for a spooky history tour or the vibrant atmosphere of Grassmarket.
Day 6-7: Glasgow & Drive to Glencoe
– Head to Glasgow for Day 6. Spend time exploring its art scene (like the Kelvingrove Art Gallery) and have a meal at one of the many fantastic restaurants.
– On Day 7, rent a car and drive to Glencoe. The drive itself offers breathtaking views, and you can easily spend the whole day in that area hiking or enjoying the landscape. It’s about a 2.5-hour drive from Glasgow to Glencoe, so it’s doable without being too rushed.
Day 8: Return to London
– Return to London for your final couple of days. Consider day trips to places like Windsor Castle or Bath if you want to see a bit of the countryside.
