Scotland Highlands Iteneray Question

Title: Seeking Advice for Scotland Highlands Itinerary
Hello everyone,
I’m in the process of finalizing my trip to Scotland for late May and could use some guidance for the final leg of my journey. After spending three days in Edinburgh, I’m planning to drive to Skye via Glencoe, where I’ll stay for three nights.
Initially, I intended to return to the mainland and head north along the coast. However, I’m now considering taking a ferry to Lewis and Harris for three nights, then ferrying back to Ullapool. This would leave us with just two days to return to Edinburgh.
What do you think? Should I go for the trip to Lewis and Harris, or would it be better to stick with my original plan of driving along the mainland coast?
Thanks for your help!
It sounds like you have an amazing trip planned! Both options have their merits, but it ultimately depends on what you want to experience.
If you choose to go to Lewis and Harris, you’ll get to see some stunning landscapes and unique attractions like the Callanish Standing Stones and the beautiful beaches of Harris. The ferry ride can also add a nice adventure to your trip. However, do keep in mind that it will be quite a bit of travel, especially with only two days left to drive back to Edinburgh.
On the other hand, sticking with your original plan of driving along the mainland coast will allow you to explore some incredible scenery and charming villages without the pressure of ferry schedules. You can stop at places like Ullapool, Achiltibuie, or even venture further north to places like Durness if time allows.
If your heart is set on Lewis and Harris, consider reducing your time on Skye by a day to balance the itinerary better. Otherwise, I’d recommend the mainland option for a more relaxed road trip experience. Whatever you decide, both routes will offer breathtaking views and memorable experiences! Enjoy your trip!
