UK visa or ETA

UK Visa or ETA

Hi everyone,

I’m a citizen of Chile planning to visit the UK for just three days, and I’m a bit confused about what I need. Do I need a visa, an ETA, or both? The website mentions “or” in one section but then references “visa and ETA” in another, which is confusing. Unfortunately, customer service hasn’t been able to clarify this for me.

Could someone explain what an ETA is? If I apply for an ETA, does that mean I don’t need to apply for a visa?

Thank you!

  1. Hi!

As a Chilean citizen planning to visit the UK for just 3 days, you will need to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) since the UK is introducing this system for certain countries, which includes Chile. The ETA allows you to travel to the UK without needing a visa for short visits like tourism or business trips.

In this case, you do not need to apply for both a visa and an ETA. The ETA serves as a travel authorization for eligible travelers. Make sure to apply for the ETA before your trip, as it’s a requirement for entering the UK now.

I recommend checking the official UK government website for the most accurate and up-to-date information on the ETA application process. Enjoy your trip!
