6 full days too few for London and Ireland?

Is six days too short for both London and Ireland?

Happy Monday! Here’s the plan: we’ll arrive early Sunday morning and head back to EWR midday Saturday. How do you feel about flying to Dublin on Thursday morning for a couple of days there?

My wife’s family is from Ireland, and she’s never visited, but I can’t help but think our schedule might be too tight. I’m concerned that four days in England won’t give us enough time to explore. What are your thoughts?

Additionally, I’d love your insights on whether it’s better to go EWR > LHR > DUB > EWR, or fly to Ireland first and then return home from LHR.

Thanks so much for your advice!

  1. Happy Monday! It sounds like you have an exciting trip planned!

Six days can feel a bit tight, especially when trying to balance both London and Ireland. If your wife’s family is from Ireland and it’s her first time visiting, it might be nice to dedicate a little more time there. Spending 4 full days in London is definitely doable if you plan your itinerary well, but you might find yourself wanting more time to explore.

Flying into London (EWR > LHR) and then heading to Dublin (LHR > DUB) sounds like a good plan. You can use your time in London to see the highlights, then hop over to Ireland for a couple of days. Since you’ll already be in London, it’s also easier logistically to go from LHR to DUB. Just consider travel time for both flights and transfers.

If you do decide to go to Dublin first, just keep in mind that you’d have to backtrack to London, which might lead to additional travel stress.

Ultimately, consider what you and your wife would love to do most. If connecting with her family’s heritage is a priority, even a short time in Ireland could be meaningful, but if you want to explore more of the sites and culture in London, then maximizing your time there might be the way to go.

Whatever you choose, enjoy your trip!
