Bath recommendations/ day trips

Bath Trip Recommendations Needed!

Hello everyone! My partner and I, both in our mid-20s, are excited for our upcoming 4-day trip to Bath from London in April. We’ll be arriving by train on a Friday late morning and will head back Monday evening, giving us two full days and two mostly-full days to explore. We’ll be relying on public transport throughout our stay.

I have a few questions where your insights would be immensely helpful:

  1. We’re considering a day trip on one of our full days, as I’m not sure there will be enough to keep us busy in Bath for the whole four days. If you believe otherwise, please let me know! We’re looking for recommendations. We enjoy pubs, shopping, and visiting castles and historical sites. We’re also open to cycling, hiking, or any outdoor activities. We’ve thought about Wells, Bristol, or Bradford on Avon as possible destinations. Is a trip to Stonehenge worth it?

  2. What are your favorite restaurants and cocktail bars in Bath? We’ve made reservations at Beckford Canteen and the Scallop Shell, but we’d love more suggestions!

  3. Any nightlife or evening date activity ideas? In London, we enjoy activity bars, jazz clubs, and vibrant nightlife, so any recommendations in that vein would be appreciated!

Thanks so much for your help! 😊

  1. That sounds like a fantastic trip! Bath has a lot to offer, but a day trip is definitely a great idea to mix things up. Here are some suggestions for your questions:

    1. Day Trip Recommendations:
    2. Wells: This charming city is just a short bus ride away and is known for its stunning cathedral, charming streets, and the beautiful Bishop’s Palace with its gardens. It makes for a lovely day exploring.
    3. Bradford on Avon: This picturesque town is easily accessible and great for walking along the canal. You can explore the quaint shops, enjoy riverside pubs, and potentially rent bikes to explore the area.
    4. Bristol: A slightly larger city, Bristol has a vibrant arts scene, great pubs, and interesting sights like the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the SS Great Britain. You could easily spend a full day here.
    5. Stonehenge: While it is iconic, keep in mind it can be a bit touristy and might take a longer time due to transportation. If you’re interested in historical sites, it could be worth it, but Wells or Bradford on Avon may offer a more quaint experience without much hassle.

    6. Restaurants and Cocktail Bars:

    7. The Olive Tree: This Michelin-starred restaurant offers a fantastic menu with local ingredients.
    8. The Circus Restaurant: Known for its great ambiance and lovely food, it’s a perfect spot for a meal.
    9. The Hideout: A cozy cocktail bar with an excellent selection of drinks.
    10. The Dark Horse: A slightly hidden gem for exceptional cocktails in a relaxed atmosphere.
    11. The Raven: Great for pub food and local ales.

    12. Evening Activities and Nightlife:

    13. Komedia: This venue offers a variety of entertainment, including comedy shows and live music, so check their schedule for events that align with your trip.
    14. The Bell: A lively pub with live music and a vibrant atmosphere.
    15. Ooze Bar: A fun cocktail bar with a quirky vibe, perfect for starting your night.
    16. Jazz Sessions: Check out venues like The Chapel Arts Centre or The Bath Pavilion for live jazz events.

Whatever you decide to do, I’m sure you’ll have a memorable time in Bath! Enjoy your trip! 😊
