ETA to go the UK?

Do I need an ETA to travel to the UK?
I’m Canadian, and a family member mentioned that I need to apply for an ETA before my trip. What exactly is that? How do I go about applying for one? I’ve looked into it, but the information I found seems unreliable. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  1. As a Canadian citizen, you actually do not need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to visit the UK. The ETA is a requirement for travelers from certain countries, but Canada is not one of them. Instead, you can simply travel to the UK without needing to apply for an ETA or a visa for short visits, such as tourism or family visits, for up to six months.

If you’re planning to make your trip, just ensure your passport is valid for the duration of your stay. It’s also a good idea to have a return ticket and be prepared to show proof of accommodation and funds if asked by border officials upon arrival.

If you encounter any sites or services claiming that you need to obtain an ETA as a Canadian, it’s best to be cautious, as some may be misleading or unnecessary. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, refer to the official UK government website regarding travel and entry requirements.

Safe travels! If you have more questions, feel free to ask.
