Family Holiday

Family Holiday Plans

Hello everyone! We’re a family from the US excited to spend two months exploring your beautiful country! We’ll be in England for a month and then in Scotland for another month. I’m also hoping to visit Wales and Northern Ireland, and potentially the Scilly Islands as well. Are there any must-see attractions or hidden gems we shouldn’t miss?

Additionally, I’ve heard there can be complications if our stay exceeds 30 days. Are there any specific documents we should have to make the process smoother? I want to ensure we’re well-prepared and not adding to the congestion in queues. Thanks so much for your help!

  1. That sounds like an exciting adventure! You’ll get to experience so much of what the UK has to offer. Here are some highlights and hidden gems you might want to consider:

    England

    • London: Can’t miss the iconic sights, but also explore neighborhoods like Shoreditch or Hampstead for a more local vibe.
    • Cotswolds: Stunning villages with beautiful countryside.
    • Lake District: Great for hiking and breathtaking scenery.
    • Cornwall: Visit the beaches, especially around St Ives and Falmouth. The Scilly Isles are beautiful too!

    Scotland

    • Edinburgh: The historic Royal Mile and the stunning Edinburgh Castle.
    • Highlands: Drive through the Highlands for scenery and Loch Ness; consider visiting Glencoe.
    • Isle of Skye: Gorgeous landscapes, perfect for outdoor activities and photography.

    Wales

    • Snowdonia National Park: Great for hiking, especially if you want to climb Mount Snowdon.
    • Cardiff: Visit the castle and explore the vibrant waterfront.

    Northern Ireland

    • Belfast: Check out the Titanic Museum and the city’s murals.
    • Giant’s Causeway: A UNESCO World Heritage site, it’s incredibly scenic.

    Hidden Gems

    • Durham: A beautiful and historic city with a stunning cathedral.
    • St Albans: A charming market town close to London with Roman history.
    • Orkney Islands: Rich in history and beautiful landscapes, though a bit off the beaten path.

    As for documentation:

It’s great to be prepared! While tourists from the US usually don’t need a visa for stays under 6 months, it’s wise to have:
Proof of onward travel: A return ticket or proof of travel to another country.
Accommodation details: It helps to have bookings or addresses where you’ll be staying.
Financial proof: Having bank statements or proof of funds can show you can support yourself.

To avoid any issues, just be polite at customs. Have fun planning your trip!
