UK visa or ETA

UK Visa or ETA Inquiry

Hello everyone,

I’m a citizen of Chile planning to visit the UK for three days, but I’m a bit confused about whether I need a visa, an ETA, or both. The website mentions “or” in one sentence and then follows up with “visa and ETA” in the next, which is quite unclear. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any helpful information from customer service.

Can anyone clarify what an ETA is? If I apply for an ETA, will I still need to apply for a visa?

Thank you!

  1. Hi there!

As a Chilean citizen planning to visit the UK for just three days, you will need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). The ETA is a new requirement for travelers visiting the UK, and it allows you to enter the country for short stays without needing a traditional visa.

To clarify, if you apply for an ETA and it is approved, you do not need to apply for a separate visa for your short visit. The information on the website you mentioned likely refers to the fact that the ETA will serve as your entry authorization, replacing the need for a visa in this situation.

Make sure to check the specific details and requirements on the official UK government website to ensure you have everything in order before your trip. Safe travels!
