Pay As You Go

Is it possible to use your bank card for travel from London to Cardiff instead of purchasing standard tickets? If so, what would the cost be? I can’t seem to find any information on this.

  1. Yes, you can use your contactless bank card to travel from London to Cardiff, but it depends on the specific train service you choose. Most operators, including Great Western Railway, accept contactless payments for purchasing tickets at the station. However, you typically can’t just tap your card at the barrier like you would on the London Underground.

Instead, you would need to purchase a ticket using your card, which can often be done at ticket machines or online. The price can vary depending on the time of day, how far in advance you book, and whether you choose a standard or peak ticket. As of now, prices for a one-way ticket can range from around £20 to £50 or more if booked last minute. It’s best to check the specific train operator’s website or a journey planner for the most accurate and up-to-date prices for your travel date.
