Favorite Essentials

Hey everyone! I can’t believe my 3-month stay in the U.K. is just three weeks away! Your help has been invaluable in my planning, and I truly appreciate it.

I view this trip less as a vacation and more as an extended stay, which means I need to stock up on the kinds of things I usually have at home (I can’t eat out all the time, haha!).

I’d love to hear your go-to items from the list below, as well as any other food recommendations you have:

  • Milk
  • Cereal
  • Chocolate
  • Bread
  • Savory biscuits
  • Prepared or frozen foods
  • Bottled water
  • Juice (any variety)

I’m really looking forward to tasting things that aren’t available in the States. Thanks so much for your suggestions!

  1. That sounds like an exciting trip! Here are some of my favorite staples from your list that you might enjoy during your stay in the U.K.:

Milk: Try whole milk for a creamy flavor, or go for semi-skimmed if you’re looking for something lighter. If you like alternatives, oat milk has become really popular in the U.K.

Cereal: I love Weetabix and honest, it’s great for breakfast! You can enjoy it with milk and some fruit. Another classic is Corn Flakes or Crunchy Nut Cornflakes.

Chocolate: You have to try Cadbury chocolate – especially Dairy Milk and the variety of flavors they offer! Don’t forget about Galaxy and the Maltesers bars too.

Bread: You can’t go wrong with a good loaves of sourdough or seeded wholemeal bread. Also, try some traditional British crumpets or bagels for a change!

Savory biscuits: Look for cheese-flavored biscuits like Philip’s or Jacob’s Cream Crackers – they’re perfect for snacking. If you like something a bit more hearty, try oatcakes.

Prepared foods/frozen foods: Look out for ready meals from brands like Tesco or Marks & Spencer, they have a great selection that you can just pop in the oven. Frozen pizzas from brands like Chicago Town are also quite popular.

Bottled water: Evian and Volvic are widely available, but if you want something with a British twist, try Highland Spring.

Juice (any kind): You can’t go wrong with classic orange juice, but I recommend trying a British favorite – apple and elderflower juice. It’s quite refreshing!

Also, don’t miss out on trying some local pies, sausage rolls, or even Cornish pasties if you can find them—they’re delicious and very British!

Enjoy your trip, and happy stocking up!
