First Time in the UK – Looking for Travel Tips! (England & Scotland)

First Trip to the UK – Seeking Travel Tips for England & Scotland!

Hello everyone!

My friends and I (a group of 4 guys aged 45-55) are excited to be heading to the UK for our first adventure! We’ll be exploring Manchester, Edinburgh, Liverpool, York, and London and will be traveling by car. Our accommodations are set, and we’ve got some tours and tickets lined up, including:

  • Old Trafford (Manchester United fan experience)
  • Edinburgh Castle & Wallace Monument
  • Clifford’s Tower (York)
  • British Museum (London)
  • England vs. Latvia at Wembley 🏴⚽
  • Stonehenge

We’re particularly keen on the following:

  • Traditional British cuisine & pubs 🍻 (Any must-try spots?)
  • Rock music & history 🎸 (We’re huge fans of British rock)
  • Football culture ⚽ (Any interesting football-related venues?)
  • Intriguing British culture & history (Unique experiences beyond the typical tourist attractions)

We would really appreciate any must-visit places, hidden gems, or local favorites you have in these cities! Additionally, any tips on navigating the UK roads, parking, or pub etiquette would be fantastic.

Thanks so much in advance! Cheers! 🍺

    • Liverpool:

    • Explore the Anfield Stadium tour, even if you’re an away fan—it’s a must for the atmosphere.

    • London:

    • If you’ve got the time, consider a tour of Wembley Stadium or visit one of the local pubs like The Famous Three Kings before your match.

    British Culture & History

    • Edinburgh: Must-see places include the Royal Mile, full of history and great shops. Don’t miss a ghost tour for a unique experience!

    • Check out the Glasgow Print Studio and other art spaces if you can venture slightly off your route.

Tips for Navigating UK Roads and Pub Etiquette

    • Driving: Remember to drive on the left side of the road and pay attention to speed limits. Some urban areas have congestion charges, so check your route.
    • Parking: Use designated parking areas; street parking can be tricky. Apps like Parkopedia can help find available spots.
    • Pub Etiquette: Order at the bar instead of waiting for table service, and it’s common to buy a round for your group. Tipping in pubs is not mandatory, but rounding up your bill or leaving small change is appreciated
