Lost Property Help Needed

Hi everyone, I hope I’m posting in the right place.

On Saturday afternoon, my boyfriend surprised me with a pair of new trainers. They are from a custom company, so they weren’t in the usual JD box or bag. Unfortunately, we accidentally left the bag on the bus.

I found out that I can contact the bus garage to check for lost property, but they’re only open Monday to Friday until 2 PM. I work long hours during the week, and I won’t be free until Wednesday evening.

If the trainers aren’t turned in, is there anything else I can do? I have the receipt for the purchase, and I’m pretty sure the CCTV on the West Midlands bus would show if someone picked them up.

I feel terrible because my boyfriend bought them for me as a birthday gift, using money from his savings. We lost them within an hour of receiving them. I’m really asking for assistance for his sake too, as he’s upset about losing £100 and feels bad that I lost the trainers I wanted so much.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about your lost trainers. It sounds like a tough situation, especially since they were a special gift from your boyfriend. Here are a few suggestions you might consider:

    1. Contact the Bus Company: Even if you can’t go in person, try calling the bus garage during their open hours. They might be able to help you over the phone or take down your details for any future finds. Be sure to have your receipt and any relevant details about the bag handy.

    2. Social Media and Lost & Found Pages: Post about your lost trainers on local community groups or lost and found pages on platforms like Facebook. Sometimes people who find lost items will post them there.

    3. Local Fairs and Markets: If you have any local markets or community boards, you might consider posting a notice there as well. It can broaden the reach of your search.

    4. CCTV Inquiry: Since you’re concerned that someone might have picked them up, you could inquire with the bus company if it’s possible to request footage, although they might have privacy policies that limit this. It’s worth asking, especially if you can provide specific details about the time and bus route.

    5. Insurance: If you or your boyfriend have contents insurance that covers loss of personal property, it might be worth checking if this situation could be covered.

    6. Replacement Options: If it does turn out that the trainers are lost for good, you might think about whether it’s possible to find a way to replace them, either through savings or perhaps a special occasion coming up.

Remember, accidents happen, and it’s understandable to feel upset, but it’s great that you’re looking for ways to resolve it together. Good luck, and I hope you get some good news soon!
