UK 4 Day Itinerary Help! In May!

Seeking UK 4-Day Itinerary Suggestions for May!

Hi everyone! I’ll be in London for work at the end of May and would like to extend my stay for a few days to explore other areas of the UK with my mom. We’re hoping to experience some nature, enjoy delicious food, take in beautiful scenery, and maybe catch a theater performance. We’re also passionate about interior design and love finding unique shops and antiques.

We’re particularly interested in places like the Cotswolds, Bath, and Cornwall, but we’re open to other suggestions as well. We’d love to travel by train and stay in charming bed and breakfasts instead of large hotels or Airbnbs.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! 😊

  1. That sounds like a wonderful trip! Here’s a suggested 4-day itinerary that combines nature, great food, and lovely scenery, along with a bit of theater and shopping, focusing on the areas you mentioned.

    Day 1: London to Bath

    • Morning: Take an early train from London to Bath (about 1.5 hours).
    • Mid-Morning: Check into a charming bed and breakfast (like the Bath House or Cedar House).
    • Afternoon: Explore the iconic Roman Baths and then take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful Georgian architecture. Don’t miss the stunning Bath Abbey.
    • Evening: Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant – perhaps The Circus Restaurant for great British cuisine. If you’re interested in theater, check if there are any performances at The Theatre Royal.

Day 2: Bath to the Cotswolds

    • Morning: After breakfast, consider a quick visit to the Jane Austen Centre, then take a train or a short bus ride to the Cotswolds.
    • Midday: Head to the town of Chipping Campden or Bourton-on-the-Water – both are picturesque with lovely shops and beautiful scenery.
    • Afternoon: Enjoy lunch at a local café, then explore the countryside; you can walk along the Cotswold Way or visit the gardens at Hidcote Manor.
    • Evening: Stay overnight in a quaint B&B in the Cotswolds. Try The Old Brewery or The Ebrington Arms for a cozy experience.

    Day 3: Cotswolds to Cornwall

    • Morning: Take an early train to Cornwall (you may need to transfer, likely in London) – the trip can take around 5-6 hours.
    • Midday: Check into a lovely B&B in the St Ives or Penzance area. The Borthalan or The Carrolls are lovely choices.
    • Afternoon: Explore the beautiful coastline, perhaps visiting St Ives with its gorgeous beaches and quaint streets filled with art galleries and shops.
    • Evening: Dine at a seafood restaurant like the Porthminster Kitchen, which has great views and delicious local fare.

    Day 4: Explore Cornwall

    • Morning: Start your day with breakfast at your B&B and head out to explore one of Cornwall’s stunning gardens, like the Eden Project or the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
    • Afternoon: Enjoy a leisurely lunch and a visit to nearby local shops or markets for antiques and crafts.
    • Evening: If you can, catch a local theater performance or simply enjoy a final dinner in a cozy pub – The Fisherman’s Arms in Penzance comes highly recommended.

    Tips:

    • Train Travel: Use National Rail for train schedules and to book your tickets in advance for better prices.
    • Nature: Don’t miss the stunning coastal walks in Cornwall; the South West Coast Path has breathtaking views.
    • Food: Make reservations for popular restaurants in advance, especially in tourist areas.
    • Interior Design & Shopping: The Cotswolds, particularly towns like Stow-on-the-Wold, are fantastic for antique hunting and boutique shopping.

Enjoy your trip with your mom, and make sure to take lots of pictures!
