Volunteer ideas?

Looking for volunteer opportunities!

We’re a family of three, including a teenager, heading to London and Dover for about a week. If anyone has suggestions for volunteer activities, we’d love to hear them! Dover might be a bit easier for us. We’re open to helping with gardening or at an animal rescue. During my time in the US Navy, some of my favorite port visits involved volunteering, where I met some amazing people. We know we can’t see everything, so we plan to mix in some volunteering with our sightseeing. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

    1. London:

      • The Big Issue: This organization offers support to homeless individuals and might have opportunities for group volunteering.
      • St. Mungo’s: This charity helps people recover from homelessness and offers various volunteering roles, including food service and outreach programs.
      • Community Gardens: Look for community gardens in neighborhoods like Hackney or Brixton. They often welcome volunteers to help with gardening and community projects.
    2. Dover:

      • Dover District Council’s Community Projects: They often have various initiatives, from gardening to conservation work, where family volunteers can make a difference.
      • Dover Zoo or Wildlife Rescue: Check with local wildlife rescue organizations; they may need help with animal care or conservation tasks.
      • The Dover Food Bank: Volunteering at a food bank can be fulfilling, as you can help sort food and assist families in need.
