10-day UK Travel Itinerary Help?

10-Day UK Travel Itinerary Assistance Needed!

Hello everyone!

I’m planning a trip to the UK in May and would really appreciate your insights into my itinerary.

Here’s what I have so far:

Day 1: Arrive in London early morning, explore the city
Day 2: More London sightseeing
Day 3: Day trip to Cambridge
Day 4: [Another day trip from London] – considering options like the Seven Sisters, White Cliffs of Dover, or the Cotswolds, but I’m open to suggestions
Day 5: More London activities, then fly to Edinburgh
Day 6: Discover Edinburgh
Day 7: Day trip to Northumberland (Alnwick Castle, Holy Island, etc.) – if you have alternative recommendations or know a good tour company, please share!
Day 8: Continue exploring Edinburgh
Day 9: Additional time in Edinburgh
Day 10: Train back to London and catch my flight

In London, I’ve already visited:

  • British Museum
  • Buckingham Palace
  • Tower of London and Tower Bridge
  • Big Ben
  • Piccadilly Circus
  • Trafalgar Square
  • Leicester Square
  • Camden Market
  • Hampstead Bathing Ponds
  • Portobello Market
  • Covent Garden
  • Little Venice

And in Edinburgh, my highlights include:

  • Dean Village
  • Royal Mile
  • Royal Botanic Garden
  • Calton Hill
  • Portobello Beach
  • Victoria Street
  • Scott Monument
  • Palace of Holyroodhouse
  • Edinburgh Castle
  • Edinburgh University

I’d love any recommendations for additional attractions or day trips, or even suggestions on which activities might be worth skipping. This will be my first visit to the UK, and I’m flexible with the itinerary. Thank you so much for your help!

  1. Your itinerary looks great, and you’ve already got some fantastic spots lined up for both London and Edinburgh! Here are a few suggestions that might enhance your experience:

Day 4: Day Trip from London

    • Seven Sisters & Beachy Head: This is a stunning coastal walk with breathtaking views of the cliffs. You can take a train to Eastbourne and then catch a bus or walk to the cliffs.
    • Cotswolds: A beautiful area with charming villages like Bibury and Bourton-on-the-Water. It’s great for a more relaxed day with lovely countryside views.
    • White Cliffs of Dover: If you’re interested in history, visiting Dover Castle along with the cliffs is worthwhile. The castle has been a key part of British history.

Overall, I’d recommend the Seven Sisters for stunning scenery, but the Cotswolds is also a lovely escape into the countryside.

Day 7: Day Trip from Edinburgh

    • St. Andrews: Known for its golf courses and beautiful coastal scenery, St. Andrews is a lovely town. It’s about a 2-hour train ride.
    • Loch Ness & the Highlands: A longer trip, but absolutely breathtaking, featuring iconic landscapes and perhaps a visit to Urquhart Castle.
    • Stirling: This trip is about an hour from Edinburgh and features Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument, which are both rich in history.

    Additional Recommendations for London:

    • Westminster Abbey: A stunning piece of architecture and history.
    • Southbank Walk: Walk along the river Thames for views of the London Eye and stop at the Shakespeare’s Globe or Tate Modern.
    • Sky Garden: For panoramic views of London, the Sky Garden is impressive and free (just book in advance).
    • Shoreditch: Explore this trendy area known for street art, markets, and food.

    Additional Recommendations for Edinburgh:

    • Arthur’s Seat: A must-hike for a panoramic view of the city; takes about an hour and a half round trip.
    • National Museum of Scotland: A great indoor option with fantastic exhibits covering Scottish history, culture, and science.
    • Ghost Tour: Edinburgh is famous for its spooky history; consider taking a ghost tour in the evening.

    General Tips:

    • Make sure to check the train times and book tickets in advance if possible, especially for day trips.
    • Consider getting a museum pass if you plan to visit several in London.
    • Be flexible; the weather can be unpredictable, so have backup options in case of rain!

Enjoy your trip to the UK! It’s a wonderful place with so much to offer!
