Chiddingstone to Hever Castle or Penshurst

Exploring Chiddingstone: Hever Castle or Penshurst?

I’m not sure why I’ve only just discovered Chiddingstone, but it’s definitely caught my interest! I’m a huge fan of anything Tudor, and this charming little village looks delightful, complete with an intriguing castle.

Initially, I considered pairing Chiddingstone with a trip to Hever Castle, given its connection to the Boleyn family. However, I think I’ll need a full day to fully explore Hever.

Would it make more sense to visit Penshurst alongside Chiddingstone instead?

I noticed I can catch a bus from Tunbridge Wells (my base in April) to Chiddingstone. Is it possible to take a taxi from Chiddingstone to Penshurst?

Thanks for your input!

  1. It sounds like you have a fantastic plan shaping up! Chiddingstone is indeed a charming village and has that lovely Tudor feel to it. If you’re particularly interested in Tudor history, both Hever Castle and Penshurst Place are great choices, but they do offer different experiences.

Given that Hever Castle is quite extensive and carries a lot of historical significance due to its connection with Anne Boleyn, you’re right that you’ll likely want to dedicate a good portion of your day there. Penshurst Place, on the other hand, is also rich in history and has beautiful gardens, but it might be more manageable to visit for a few hours.

As for transportation, yes, you can definitely take a taxi from Chiddingstone to Penshurst. It’s a short distance, and a taxi would provide a convenient way to navigate between the two. You could also check for local bus schedules, as there may be options available too.

Combining Chiddingstone with Penshurst would make for a lovely day of exploring without feeling too rushed. Enjoy your trip in April!
