First time Solo Travel

Embarking on My First Solo Adventure!

Hello, everyone!

I’m excited to share that this November, I’ll be embarking on a three-week journey around the UK! My plan is to spend around 11 days exploring Scotland and then 12-14 days in England. I’ll be renting a camper for my time in Scotland and a car for my travels in England.

I’ll be flying into London from Seoul, Korea, right after a trip with my mom. I’m reaching out for any tips or advice you might have—whether it’s about cash usage, must-visit country towns, or anything else! Your insights would mean the world to me. Thank you so much! ❤️

  1. That sounds like an amazing adventure! Here are some tips to help you make the most of your solo trip around the UK:

    General Tips:

    1. Cash vs. Card: It’s best to have a small amount of cash for small purchases or places that don’t accept cards, especially in rural areas. However, most places, including shops and restaurants, accept debit and credit cards. Contactless payments are widely used too.

    2. Camping Tips: Since you’re hiring a camper in Scotland, make sure to check the camper’s amenities and setup. Familiarize yourself with where you can camp legally (like campgrounds versus wild camping) and ensure you have the necessary gear (like a sleeping bag, cooking supplies, etc.).

    Scotland Highlights:

    1. Edinburgh: Start with Edinburgh—visit the castle, stroll along the Royal Mile, and don’t miss Arthur’s Seat for some stunning views.

    2. Highlands: Drive through the Scottish Highlands. Consider visiting places like Glen Coe, Loch Ness, and Isle of Skye for breathtaking landscapes.

    3. Inverness: A delightful city close to Loch Ness, perfect for exploring the Highlands.

    England Highlights:

    1. Cotswolds: Consider spending time in the picturesque towns of Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Stow-on-the-Wold.

    2. Oxford and Cambridge: Both cities are renowned for their universities and beautiful architecture. They’re also great for solo exploration.

    3. Lake District: A must-visit for stunning lakes and hiking opportunities.

    4. Bath: Famous for its Roman baths and Georgian architecture, it’s a lovely town to explore.

    Safety & Solo Travel:

    • Stay Connected: Keep your phone charged and have a power bank. Consider getting a SIM card for local data.
    • Trust Your Instincts: Listen to your gut feelings about places and people.
    • Meet People: Hostels, campsites, and events are great ways to meet fellow travelers.

    Packing:

    • Layer Up: The UK weather can be unpredictable. Bring layers and a waterproof jacket!
    • Comfortable Shoes: You’ll likely be doing a lot of walking.

    Final Thoughts:

    • Enjoy the Journey: Solo travel is all about the experience. Don’t stress too much about sticking to plans—allow for spontaneity!
    • Document Your Trip: Take lots of photos or keep a journal to capture your experiences.

I hope you have an incredible trip! Safe travels! 🌍✨
