What’s the weather like in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Loch Ness in May?

I’m planning to visit these places next month, and I’m a bit confused about what to expect in terms of weather and what to wear. I’m Indian and currently live in a location with very extreme weather—hot summers and harsh winters—so I can usually handle various climates. London’s weather seems manageable for me, but I still have some questions. My trip will last for 10 days, and I have to pack light due to weight restrictions since I’ll be attending a wedding as well. Any tips on clothing and what to expect weather-wise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  1. It sounds like an exciting trip! In May, the weather in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Loch Ness can be quite variable, so it’s good to be prepared.

London: In May, London typically experiences mild weather with average temperatures ranging from 8°C to 17°C (46°F to 63°F). It can be a bit rainy, so a light waterproof jacket and layers are advisable. You might also want to bring a light sweater for cooler evenings.

Edinburgh: Edinburgh is usually a bit cooler, with temperatures ranging from 6°C to 15°C (43°F to 59°F). It can be windy and rainy, so definitely include a warm layer, perhaps a scarf, and an umbrella.

Glasgow: Similar to Edinburgh, Glasgow has an average temperature of 7°C to 15°C (45°F to 59°F) in May. Being prepared for rain is a must. Layered clothing will keep you comfy as temperatures fluctuate throughout the day.

Loch Ness: The weather around Loch Ness tends to be cooler and can be quite damp as well, with temperatures ranging from 5°C to 14°C (41°F to 57°F). It’s worth noting that it can get chilly, especially in the evenings, so pack a warm layer and possibly a beanie or hat.

    Packing Tips:
    1. Layering: Bring a mix of long-sleeve shirts, light sweaters or cardigans, and a waterproof jacket. This way, you can adjust to changes in temperature easily.
    2. Comfortable Shoes: Since you’ll be doing a lot of exploring, comfortable walking shoes are essential. Waterproof options are a bonus!
    3. Versatile Pieces: Pack clothing items that can be mixed and matched. Neutral colors can be helpful for this.
    4. Formal Attire: Since you’re attending a wedding, make sure to pack your wedding outfit. Choose a dress or suit that is lightweight and can be paired with different accessories.
    5. Accessories: A scarf can be a stylish yet functional addition for warmth, and an umbrella is advisable given the chances of rain.

Overall, being prepared for a range of temperatures and conditions will help you have a fantastic time on your trip. Enjoy the wedding and your travels through the beautiful landscapes of Scotland and England!
