Stansted transportation options

Transportation Options from Stansted

Hi everyone! I’m traveling from Stansted to Chigwell this Thursday and would appreciate any advice on the best transportation options. It looks like taking the Stansted Express and the tube could be quite time-consuming, and the total fares are nearly the same as using Uber or Bolt (around £50).

Coming from a small country where ridesharing is quite common, I’m curious if there are similar options in London, like Facebook groups or other rideshare platforms? As a young woman traveling solo, would you recommend these, or is it better to avoid them?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. Hi there!

There are a few transportation options to consider when traveling from Stansted to Chigwell. Given the cost and your time constraints, here are some suggestions:

    1. Stansted Express + Tube: While this is the standard option, it can be a bit lengthy. You would take the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street, and then transfer to the Central Line towards Hainault and get off at Chigwell. It costs around £20-£30, but can take about 1.5 to 2 hours.

    2. Uber/Bolt: As you mentioned, a rideshare service could cost around £50, but it offers convenience and a direct route. This may be a good option if you’re concerned about carrying luggage or traveling late at night.

    3. Private Coach Service: Look for private coach services that operate between Stansted and Chigwell. This could be a more economical option without the hassles of transfers.

    4. Shared Rides: While there might not be specific FB groups for ridesharing the way you’d find in smaller countries, some apps, like BlaBlaCar, facilitate long-distance carpooling. Just ensure you check profiles and ratings for safety.

If you’re comfortable using rideshare apps like Uber and Bolt, they are widely used in London and can be quite safe, especially if you follow the usual safety measures, like confirming the driver and car details.

For an added layer of comfort as a young woman traveling alone, you might also consider traveling during busier hours and letting someone know your plans.

Safe travels and enjoy your time in London!
