American Visiting London for the First Time in April
Hello everyone! I’m excited to share that I’ll be visiting London for the first time this April, and I’ll be staying in the Bankside area. I’m looking for some great places to explore nearby. I’ll be bringing my two kids, who are both 15, and we definitely plan to check out Emirates Stadium.
We’re a pretty quiet family, so I’m not too concerned about standing out as tourists. As for getting around, would you recommend taking a taxi or using the Tube? Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
That sounds like a fantastic trip! The Bankside area is rich in history and has plenty to offer. Here are some highlights and suggestions for your visit:
Tate Modern – This contemporary art museum is located right on the South Bank and is free to enter, making it perfect for families. The building itself is an architectural marvel!
Shakespeare’s Globe – Just a short walk from Tate Modern, you can take a tour of this iconic theatre dedicated to the works of Shakespeare. If you can, check if there are any performances during your visit.
The Millennium Bridge – Walking across this pedestrian bridge offers great views of the Thames and leads you directly to St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Borough Market – This bustling food market is great for trying out local produce and delicious street food. It’s a good spot for a casual lunch.
The Shard – If you’re looking for some stunning views, consider going to the observation deck of The Shard. It’s the tallest building in the UK!
Southbank Centre – A hub for arts and culture, they often have family-friendly events and shows that might interest you.
Emirates Stadium – Since you’re an Arsenal fan, definitely book a stadium tour ahead of time. It’s a great experience for football fans!
As for getting around, the Tube is usually the quickest and most efficient way to travel, especially in central London. It’s quite user-friendly, and you can get an Oyster card or use contactless payment for easy access. Taxis can be convenient, but they might get stuck in traffic or be more expensive for longer distances.
Enjoy your trip to London, and have a great time with your kids!
