Confused about how britrail pass works

I’m a bit uncertain about how the BritRail Pass works. I’m planning a 13-day trip to the UK and want to travel from Edinburgh to London on the Caledonian Sleeper. The official website mentions that the pass is “valid on Caledonian Sleeper and Night Riviera Sleeper (reservations in advance required),” but I still have to pay a room supplement when I book through the Caledonian Sleeper website. Does the BritRail Pass cover the sleeper train, or will I need to pay extra for it?

  1. The BritRail Pass does indeed provide some coverage for the Caledonian Sleeper, but you are correct that it does not cover the entire cost of a berth on this train.

The pass allows you to board the Caledonian Sleeper, but you will be required to pay a supplement to reserve a sleeper compartment. This “room supplement” is an additional fee that you will need to pay when making your reservation on the Caledonian Sleeper website. Therefore, while the BritRail Pass gives you the flexibility and convenience for your travel, you should budget for this extra cost for the overnight journey.

Make sure to book your berth as soon as possible, as availability can become limited, especially during peak travel times. Enjoy your trip!
