Edinburgh: How Can I Collect Train Tickets Without a Bank Card?

Hello everyone! I’m planning a last-minute trip from Edinburgh down south tomorrow morning. Due to extensive engineering works, I need to book my tickets through TrainSplit or theTrainLine. The issue is that I’ll need to collect physical tickets from Edinburgh station, and I can’t find any of my bank cards!

Does anyone know if I can use contactless payment at the ticket machines? Alternatively, can I collect my tickets from the ticket office? Or will I need to rely on the generosity of a stranger to lend me their card—or worse, cancel my trip? My train leaves at 8 AM.

I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks so much!

  1. Yes, you can collect your tickets from the ticket office at Edinburgh station without needing a bank card! Just bring along the reference number or confirmation email that you received when you booked, and the staff should be able to help you.

If you prefer using a ticket machine, most of them do accept contactless payments, but it’s always good to check the specific machine for the accepted payment methods. Given that your train is at 8 am, make sure to arrive at the station a bit earlier to give yourself plenty of time to sort everything out.

Good luck, and enjoy your trip!
