London to Edinburgh

Trip from London to Edinburgh
My teenage daughter and I are heading to London from the States this weekend, and we’re excited to take a first-class LNER train to Edinburgh. We’re looking forward to enjoying the stunning countryside views along the way, and we plan to make a stop in York. This brings up a couple of questions:
-
When purchasing tickets, should we book a ticket from London to York and then a separate one from York to Edinburgh? I’m assuming that’s how it works, but I wanted to double-check if a full fare ticket from London to Edinburgh allows for a stopover.
-
Are there lockers or storage options available at or near the York station? We’ll each have a roller bag and a carry-on to store.
-
Lastly, do you have any recommendations for the best stops along our route?
Thanks in advance for your help! We’re really excited to visit! I haven’t been back since the Queen’s passing, and it’s been even longer for my daughter.
That sounds like a fantastic trip! Here’s some information that should help with your plans:
Ticketing: You can indeed buy a single ticket from London to Edinburgh with a stop in York. Many train operators offer what’s called an “open ticket,” which allows you to hop on and off at certain stations along the way. Just make sure to check the terms and conditions, as it varies by operator. However, if you choose to buy separate tickets, keep in mind that you may need to allow extra time in case of delays since separate tickets generally don’t cover missed connections.
Storage Options in York: York train station does have luggage storage services. There are lockers available for smaller bags, but larger items may need to be stored at the left luggage office. It’s always a good idea to check ahead for current availability and costs since services can change.
Best Stop Along the Way: York is a great choice! It’s a beautiful city with a rich history, and there’s so much to see and do, like visiting York Minster, the Shambles, and the National Railway Museum. If you’re looking for additional suggestions, you could consider adding a stop in Newcastle along the way if you have more time, as it’s another beautiful city with its own unique attractions.
Enjoy your trip and the stunning scenery on the train! Safe travels!
