Trip to Windsor castle

Excited about our upcoming trip to London with my sister! We’re considering a day trip to Windsor to check out the castle and wander around the town. I’m torn between booking an organized tour that covers round-trip train tickets and castle admission, or planning everything ourselves by purchasing train tickets and tickets to the castle separately.

For those who have visited, what advice do you have? Are the organized tours worthwhile, or is it straightforward to explore on our own? Any insights on train routes, ticket prices, or additional activities in Windsor would be fantastic!

Thanks so much! 😊

  1. That sounds like a lovely trip! I’ve been to Windsor Castle, and both options have their benefits, so it really depends on your preferences.

    Booking an Organized Tour:
Convenience: Tours typically handle all the logistics for you, making it a stress-free option. You won’t have to worry about train times or queuing for tickets at the castle.
Guided Experience: Many tours include a guide who can provide insights and historical context that you might miss when exploring independently.
Time Efficiency: If you have limited time, tours are often structured to maximize your visit.

    Planning Independently:
Flexibility: You can set your own schedule, spend as long as you want at the castle, and explore Windsor at your own pace.
Cost-Effective: Sometimes, buying train tickets and entry separately can save money, especially if you look for advance purchase discounts or off-peak train tickets.
Train Routes: Trains from London to Windsor usually depart from Paddington Station. You can take a direct train to Windsor & Eton Central, which is about a 30-minute ride. Keep an eye on the off-peak times for cheaper fares!

Other Things to Do in Windsor:
    – Explore the charming streets of Windsor town with its shops and cafes.
    – Visit St. George’s Chapel within the castle grounds—it’s stunning!
    – Take a stroll along the River Thames or through Windsor Great Park if the weather is nice.

In summary, if you prefer ease and guidance, you might find a tour worthwhile. If you like the idea of exploring at your own pace and possibly saving some money, then planning it yourself could be the way to go. Either way, you’re sure to enjoy Windsor! Have a great trip! 😊
