April Adventure: Edinburgh > Isle of Skye > Liverpool
Exciting news! My wife and I are finally going on our honeymoon this April. A friend has generously offered us a house on the Isle of Skye for a week, so we’re making the most of it. We’ll be landing in Manchester on Friday morning, spending a night (or possibly two) in Edinburgh, and then heading over to the Isle of Skye.
As die-hard Liverpool supporters, we’re wrapping up our trip in Liverpool on Friday or Saturday before flying out of Manchester at noon on Sunday. We’re hoping to snag tickets to the home match against Tottenham (I know it might be tough and pricey), but watching it at a pub would be a great experience too.
Since the house is pretty remote, we need to rent a car. Here’s our travel plan: land in Manchester, take a train to Edinburgh, rent a car, drive to the house, and then head to Liverpool. It’s a lot of driving depending on the routes we choose, but we’re used to long road trips.
Is this a crazy idea? Any suggestions for better car routes or tips to make this journey smoother would be hugely appreciated!
Your trip sounds absolutely amazing, and it’s great that you’ve planned a combination of city exploration and beautiful countryside! Here are a few tips to consider for your travel strategy:
Route Planning: From Edinburgh to Isle of Skye, the most common route is to take the A82, which offers stunning views of the Highlands, including Loch Ness! Make sure to allow some extra time for scenic stops along the way. The drive from Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye can take about 5-6 hours, depending on traffic and breaks.
Edinburgh to Isle of Skye: You might consider breaking up the drive with a stop in places like Fort William or Glencoe. These areas are incredibly picturesque and can make for a memorable experience.
Driving on Skye: The roads on the Isle of Skye can be narrow and winding in places, but the scenery is well worth it. Make sure to check the weather, as conditions can change rapidly.
Liverpool: After your time on Skye, the journey to Liverpool will take around 6-7 hours. It’s a longer haul, so plan for a good rest stop or even an overnight stay along the way if you feel it might be too much for one day.
Car Rental: When renting a car, ensure it’s equipped for rural driving (e.g., GPS or maps for areas with limited service) and be aware of parking restrictions in both Edinburgh and Liverpool.
Tickets for the Match: If you can’t get tickets for the Liverpool vs. Tottenham match, checking out pubs is a great idea. Look for venues that are known for supporting Liverpool; it will enhance your experience as you celebrate with fellow fans.
Enjoy Your Time Together: Don’t forget to carve out some time to relax and enjoy each other’s company amidst all the driving and sightseeing. Sometimes the journey can be just as memorable as the destinations.
Overall, your travel plan, while ambitious, is not insane—just be prepared for some long drives and prioritize stops that will make the journey enjoyable. Enjoy your honeymoon and all the adventures ahead!
