Bath to York

Bath to York Travel Inquiry
Hi everyone,
I’m planning a trip for April and need some advice on transportation. For four of us, the train from Bath to York is quite pricey—over $500 CAD (about £285). Would it be more cost-effective to rent a car for that journey, especially if we drop it off in York?
I already have our train from London to Bath booked, and I will need to take a couple more train journeys to Edinburgh. We’re flying back to London from Edinburgh to save time.
As a first-time traveler to the UK, I’m a bit unsure about the best options. In Canada, train travel can be lengthy, and renting a car is more common due to the vast distances. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hi there!
Your trip sounds exciting! Renting a car could potentially save you some money, especially if you’re traveling with four people. However, keep a few things in mind:
Cost of Renting: Check the rental rates for a car in Bath, including fuel costs and any extra fees for dropping it off in York. Make sure to calculate the total cost, as some rental companies might charge fees for one-way rentals.
Driving Differences: Driving in the UK is quite different from Canada! You’ll be on the left side of the road, and the roads can be narrower and more winding. Make sure everyone in your group is comfortable with this.
Parking: Consider where you’ll park in York. Some city centers have limited parking options, and it can be expensive.
Train Advantages: The train is often more convenient and allows you to relax and take in the scenery without worrying about navigation and traffic. Plus, you won’t need to deal with parking or fuel stops.
If convenience and ease of travel are priorities, sticking with the train might be the best option despite the cost. However, if you’re looking to save money and have a bit of adventure, renting a car could be fun!
Enjoy your trip! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
