Family Holiday

Family Holiday Plans
Hello everyone! We’re a family from the US planning to spend a couple of months exploring your beautiful country. We’ll be in England for one month and Scotland for another, but I’m hoping to squeeze in visits to Wales and Northern Ireland too—maybe even the Scilly Islands!
Are there any must-see attractions or hidden gems that I shouldn’t miss?
I’ve also heard that there can be challenges if you stay for more than 30 days. Are there any additional documents I should bring to help make the process smoother? I want to avoid being that clueless American who holds up the line. Thank you for your help!
Hi there!
That sounds like an amazing trip! You’ll experience so much of the UK’s rich culture and history in those two months. Here are a few suggestions and tips:
Places to Visit:
York: A charming medieval city with a stunning cathedral and historic streets.
Scotland:
Glasgow: Known for its vibrant arts scene and architecture.
Wales:
Cardiff: Check out Cardiff Castle and the waterfront at Cardiff Bay.
Northern Ireland:
Giants Causeway: A must-see natural wonder.
Isles of Scilly: If you have time, they offer stunning beaches and a relaxing atmosphere.
Hidden Gems:
– The Lake District: Incredible for hiking and picturesque villages.
– Cotswolds: Quaint villages with beautiful stone cottages.
– Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter: Great for street art and nightlife.
Documentation Tips:
– As for your stay, ensure your passport is valid for the duration of your trip.
– You are correct about the 30-day rule; however, as US citizens, you can typically stay for up to six months without a visa, provided you do not work or access public funds.
– It’s wise to have proof of onward travel and accommodation details, just in case border officials ask.
It’s great that you want to be considerate during your travels! Enjoy the UK, and don’t hesitate to ask locals for recommendations. They often have the best tips. Safe travels!
