Holiday in UK for 3 weeks

Three-Week Holiday in the UK

Hello everyone! I’m excited to share that I’ll be traveling to the UK, specifically London, for four weeks this August! It’s my first visit to the UK and I’m coming all the way from New Zealand. While I’ll mostly be spending time with family, I have some plans in place:

  • Seven days to explore London
  • A day trip to Oxford
  • A three-day adventure in Edinburgh
  • A day at Stonehenge
  • A day visiting York
  • A two-day trip to Bath and the Lake District

I love walking and hiking, so I’d really like to incorporate more of that into my itinerary. If you have any suggestions or think I might be missing something, I’d love to hear your recommendations!

  1. Your trip sounds fantastic, and it’s great that you have a mix of urban exploration and scenic destinations! Here are some recommendations and ideas to enhance your adventure:

    London:

    1. Walking Tours: Consider joining some themed walking tours, such as the Jack the Ripper Tour in East London or a Harry Potter walking tour. They’re a fun way to explore the city and learn more about its history.
    2. Parks and Gardens: Make sure to visit some of London’s beautiful parks. Hyde Park, Regent’s Park, and Richmond Park are great for walking and offer a chance to see some nature.
    3. Cultural Stops: Check out the British Museum and the Tate Modern. Both are free and have amazing exhibits.

    Day Trips:

    • Oxford: Besides the university, take a stroll along the picturesque river and even hire a boat for a different perspective of the city.
    • Stonehenge: Combine this trip with a visit to Salisbury — the cathedral there is stunning and worth exploring.
    • York: Don’t miss the Shambles and a walk along the city walls for great views.

    Edinburgh:

    • Walking/Hiking: Hike up Arthur’s Seat for stunning panoramic views of the city. The walk is rewarding and captures the natural beauty of Edinburgh.
    • Explore the Royal Mile: This area is filled with history, shops, and cafes that might be interesting to explore.

    Bath and the Lake District:

    • Bath: Apart from visiting the Roman Baths, take a walk along the Avon River or up to Prior Park for scenic views.
    • Lake District: If you’re into hiking, consider exploring the trails around Windermere or Grasmere. Both areas have beautiful walks suited for various fitness levels.

    Other Considerations:

    • Cotswolds: If you have extra time, consider a day trip to the Cotswolds for stunning villages and more walking paths.
    • Weather: August can be unpredictable weather-wise, so be prepared with clothing for both warm and rainy days!

    Final Tip:

Don’t forget to try some classic British food during your travel, like fish and chips, a Sunday roast, and afternoon tea!

Enjoy your trip to the UK; it sounds like you’re going to have an amazing time with plenty of exploration!
