I’m planning a tour of the Scottish Highlands and I’m curious about whether Orkney is a worthwhile stop. While it would be a treat to visit, it feels quite out of the way. Is it really worth including in my plans?
Here’s my current itinerary:
- Edinburgh to Fort William, stopping in Glasgow
- Fort William to Glenfinnan, Mallaig, and then Portree (via Armadale)
- Exploring Portree, including the Old Man of Storr and Fairy Pools
- Portree to Inverness, passing through Kyle of Lochalsh
- Inverness to Oban
- Oban to Mull, Iona, and back to Oban
- Finally, Oban to Edinburgh, with a stop in Glasgow
I would appreciate any advice on visiting Orkney or thoughts on my overall itinerary. I’m open to adjusting both my route and the number of days for the trip!
