April Trip: Edinburgh > Isle of Skye > Liverpool
My wife and I are finally embarking on our honeymoon this April! A generous friend has lent us a house on the Isle of Skye from Saturday to Saturday. We’ll be landing in Manchester on Friday morning and plan to spend a night (or possibly two) in Edinburgh before making our way to Skye. As die-hard Liverpool supporters, we’re wrapping up our adventure with a visit to Liverpool on Friday or Saturday, then flying out of Manchester on Sunday at noon.
We’re aiming to snag tickets for the match against Tottenham, although I know it might be tricky and pricey. If that doesn’t work out, catching the game in a pub will still be a blast.
Since the house is quite remote, we’ll need to rent a car. Here’s our current travel plan: land in Manchester, take a train to Edinburgh, rent a car, drive to our house, and finally head to Liverpool. It’s going to involve a fair bit of driving according to different route maps, but we’re used to road trips back home.
Do you think this is an overly ambitious plan? I’d love any suggestions for better driving routes or tips to streamline our journey!
Congratulations on your upcoming honeymoon! Your trip sounds absolutely amazing, and you have some fantastic destinations planned.
Your travel strategy seems solid, and while it may be a fair amount of driving, it’s entirely manageable if you’re used to road trips. Here are a few tips to make your journey smoother and more enjoyable:
Transportation: Since you’re landing in Manchester, taking a train to Edinburgh is a great idea. It’s efficient and gives you a chance to relax and enjoy the scenery. Just be sure to check the train schedules ahead of time to make the most of your brief stay in Edinburgh.
Car Rental: Reserve your rental car in advance, especially since you’ll be picking it up in Edinburgh. Also, consider picking it up at the train station for convenience.
Driving to the Isle of Skye: The drive to Skye is breathtaking, especially the last leg across the Skye Bridge. You might want to stop in places like Fort William and the stunning Glencoe along the way. Getting there early in the day will give you time to explore.
Isle of Skye Highlights: Make sure you have a list of must-see spots on Skye like the Fairy Pools, Old Man of Storr, and Dunvegan Castle. The landscape is beautiful, so plan for plenty of photo opportunities (and don’t forget your camera!).
Journey to Liverpool: The drive from Skye to Liverpool will be long, but you might enjoy the scenic route via the A82 and then the M6. It’s worth planning breaks along the way, perhaps stopping at Loch Lomond or in the Lake District for a quick hike or meal.
Liverpool Experience: If you can’t get tickets to the match, local pubs and fan zones will have a great atmosphere for watching the game. Arrive early to secure a good spot!
Driving in the UK: Remember that you’ll be driving on the left side of the road. Give yourself time to adjust, especially in rural areas where the roads are narrow and winding.
Timings: Be conscious of the distance and travel times between locations, especially if you have specific activities planned.
Overall, it doesn’t sound like an insane idea! It’s all about embracing the journey as part of your adventure. Enjoy your honeymoon, safe travels, and have a wonderful time at the match!
