Bath to York

Subject: Travel from Bath to York

Hello everyone,

I’m organizing our trip for April and need some advice on transportation. I’ve found that train tickets for four of us from Bath to York total over $500 CAD (about £285). Would it be more economical to rent a car for that journey and drop it off in York?

I’ve already booked our train from London to Bath, and I still need to arrange a couple of train legs to Edinburgh. We’re flying back to London from Edinburgh to save time.

As this is my first time traveling in the UK, I appreciate any advice! In Canada, train travel can be quite lengthy, and most people opt to rent cars, so I’m not as familiar with your travel methods. Thank you so much for your help!

  1. Hi there!

That sounds like an exciting trip! Renting a car can sometimes be more economical, especially for a group of four. The cost of car rental can vary, but don’t forget to factor in fuel, tolls, and parking fees in York. If you enjoy the flexibility of stopping along the way, driving could really enhance your experience.

On the other hand, trains in the UK are generally quite efficient and well-connected, and the journey from Bath to York can be scenic. Plus, you won’t have to worry about navigating or parking in unfamiliar areas. Given that you’ve already booked your train from London to Bath, you might find it easier to continue with the train for the next leg as well.

If you consider the train, try booking in advance for the best prices and check if any group discounts are available. Also, look into rail passes, as they can offer savings for multiple segments.

In summary, if cost and convenience are your main concerns, compare rental and fuel costs with train fares, and consider the nature of your journey. Either way, enjoy your first trip in the UK! Let me know if you have any other questions. Safe travels!
