Volunteer ideas?

Looking for Volunteer Opportunities!

We’re a family of three with a teenager planning to spend a week in London and Dover. Do you have any suggestions for volunteer projects we could participate in? We’re particularly interested in opportunities in Dover, and we’re happy to help with activities like gardening or assisting at an animal rescue.

During my time in the US Navy, some of my favorite memories were from volunteering during our port visits, where I met some wonderful people. Since we can’t see everything, we’d love to dedicate some time to giving back. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  1. That sounds like a wonderful way to spend your time! Here are a few volunteer ideas for your family while you’re in London and Dover:

    In Dover:

    1. Dover Wildlife Conservation Trust: They often need volunteers for various conservation projects, including gardening and maintaining local habitats. It could be a great way to contribute while being outdoors.

    2. Animal Rescue Centers: Check out local animal shelters or rescue organizations like “Dover Cats Protection” or “Dogs Trust” in nearby Kent. They often welcome volunteers to help with animal care, socialization, and basic maintenance.

    3. Community Gardens: Look for community gardening projects in Dover. Many local gardens appreciate extra hands for planting, weeding, and general upkeep.

    In London:

    1. London Wildlife Trust: They have various projects where you can volunteer for conservation work, including gardening and habitat restoration.

    2. The Harefield Animal Rescue: If you’re willing to travel a bit outside central London, they often have opportunities for volunteers to help with animal care.

    3. Food Banks: Organizations like The Trussell Trust have food banks that are always in need of volunteers. Helping to sort and pack food can be a rewarding experience.

    4. Local Event Volunteering: Check community boards or websites like Volunteer London to see if there are upcoming events where volunteers are needed, such as festivals or charity runs.

Remember to reach out in advance to see what opportunities are available during your visit, as some places may require prior arrangements. Enjoy your time in the UK and the meaningful work you’ll be doing!
