Heathrow with family

Heading to Heathrow with the Family
My family and I are traveling from the U.S. and this is our first time at Heathrow, so we’re a bit unsure about the procedures. I understand that families need to go through manual entry together, but I believe that kids aged 14 and over can use the e-gates, right? Given that we have quite a bit of luggage and a tight schedule, I was thinking of sending my husband and our oldest through the e-gate to get our bags sorted while I take the younger kids through the manual process. Is that allowed? We definitely want to stay within the rules, but this seems like it would be more efficient. Thanks for your help!
It sounds like you’re planning a busy arrival! At Heathrow, families traveling with children can indeed use the manual entry together, and you’re correct that children aged 12 and over can use the e-gates.
However, it’s best to stick together as a family when going through immigration, especially with younger kids, as the process can sometimes get a bit chaotic. While it might seem more efficient to split up, you may want to consider the potential complications of having one parent go through the e-gates separately. If your husband goes ahead with your oldest and you go through the manual process with the younger kids, you could risk confusion or delays at baggage claim.
If you’re feeling pressed for time, I recommend checking if there’s a family lane available when you arrive, as this can sometimes expedite the process. Also, make sure to keep communication open between you and your husband in case any issues arise. Safe travels, and enjoy your time in London!
