Booked an extra day, Now I have 1 extra day

Booked an extra day in the UK!

Hey everyone! I accidentally misbooked my flights for a conference in the UK and ended up with an extra non-refundable day. This means I’ll need to spend one more night near London before my flight out of Heathrow the following evening.

I’m looking for recommendations on affordable yet clean places to stay, as well as any free or budget-friendly activities and sights to check out. I’m open to staying near Heathrow (my flight departs from Terminal 3) but would love tips on how to explore the city on a budget too.

I’m 27 and eager to make the most of my extra day! Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. Hey there! It sounds like you have an unexpected extra day to explore, which could be a great opportunity! Here are some suggestions for your stay near Heathrow and some budget-friendly activities:

    Accommodations

    1. Ibis Styles London Heathrow – Affordable and clean, with decent amenities.
    2. Premier Inn Heathrow – Usually a good balance of comfort and price.
    3. Travelodge Heathrow Central – Another budget-friendly option with basic accommodations.

    Activities

    • Visit Windsor: It’s a short train ride from Heathrow (about 20-30 minutes) and offers Windsor Castle, which you can admire from the outside for free or explore for a fee.
    • Walk along the River Thames: The area around Windsor is nice for a stroll along the river, and it’s completely free.
    • Explore Richmond Park: A bit further out but worth it for the beautiful nature, deer, and park trails. You can take a bus or train there.
    • Free Museums in London: If you want to head into central London, many museums (like the British Museum and the National Gallery) are free to enter.

    Transportation

    • Oyster Card: If you plan to travel into London, get an Oyster card for cheaper travel on public transport (trains, buses).
    • Direct trains to Central London: You can take the Heathrow Express or the Elizabeth Line, which is reasonably priced for getting into the city.

    Tips

    • Look for walking tours: Many companies offer free or inexpensive walking tours where you can tip based on your experience.
    • Check Time Out or similar websites for any free events happening during your stay—you might find something interesting!

Make the most of your extra day, and enjoy London! Let me know if you have any other questions! Safe travels!
