Itinerary Assistance for a 10-Day Trip
Hello everyone,
We’re two female travelers from Asia heading to the UK in mid-April. We’re planning to kick off our journey with four days in Manchester and would love some suggestions for day trips. I enjoy outdoor activities and stunning landscapes. I’ve found several highly-rated tours of Lake District National Park on TripAdvisor, but I’m unsure about their reliability.
After Manchester, we’re traveling by train to Edinburgh and are thinking about joining the Rabbies day tour of the Scottish Highlands.
Are there any other cities near Manchester that you’d recommend exploring by train? Thank you!
Hi there! Sounds like a fantastic trip you have planned!
For your day trips around Manchester, the Lake District is definitely a great choice, especially if you enjoy stunning landscapes and outdoor activities. The tours you found on TripAdvisor can be reliable, especially if they have lots of positive reviews. Apart from the Lake District, you might also consider:
Peak District National Park – Just a short train or bus ride away, this area offers beautiful walking trails, charming villages like Bakewell, and stunning views. You can easily find local tours or even take public transport to explore on your own.
York – This historic city is about an hour away by train from Manchester. It’s known for its medieval architecture, the beautiful York Minster, and the charming Shambles. Great place for a day of strolling around and soaking in some history.
Liverpool – Just 30 minutes by train, Liverpool boasts cultural attractions such as The Beatles Story, the beautiful Albert Dock, and several museums. Plus, the waterfront views are lovely!
Chester – Around an hour by train, Chester features a stunning Roman history, the well-preserved city walls, and the unique two-tiered shops along The Rows.
When you’re in Edinburgh, the Rabbies tour of the Scottish Highlands is a popular choice and offers a great way to see the majestic landscapes. Just remember to book in advance, as these tours can fill up quickly.
